Busy Week

It Has Felt Like...
A very busy week! We had our land leveled, cooked on an open fire, worked and wathced TV and have chilled out and relaxed! I am back on a good workout schedule- even though I can't quite get into Wii Fit like my wife has! I still like old fashion lifting weights better! Speaking of which, I need to work out in a few minutes and take a shower! Tomorrow is the last day of turkey season and I have not decided on whether or not I am going out for one last hour! I have to work tomorrow and I still am not sure if I am working on Monday or not- leaning towards no! My turkey season was a complete bust! I missed my second bird ever and never even had another shooter in range! I like riding to and from work with Jerry and I found out on the way home that he is off until Wednesday! Even more reason for me to not work Monday! The only problem is I am on call starting Monday and I need to get the cell phone! Speaking of Jerry, Saturday night is Zack and Jerry's birthday party and I am looking forward to it! I am not on call but I think it is my wife's turn to drink so we will see what happens! Well, off to work out and take a shower! Night

Turkeys, Steak and Fun!

What An Awesome Memorial Day...
Weekend! I got out of work Saturday and then Jerry, Julie, Heather, Kevin, Tim and Kristie came over for fun and drinks! We had a blast! I drank too much and had a really good time! I have been on call all weekend so it hasn't been all peaches and sunshine but oh well! Sunday was fine! I got some stuff done around he house, messed around a bit, hung out with the kids and basically just chilled out! Monday is the restart of my turkey season so I got up at 330 AM and headed out back. Nothing out there but Dad wanted me to come get him at 7AM so I did and we road around and saw a TON of birds! We saw one HUGE tom with a big, white head and called him into what I thought was 40 yards! It was more like 65 yards and I totally blew it and missed him completely! My arm still hurts from shooting my new gun! Then we had some lunch, I took a nap and we went to Walmart! I bought a new burner for my grill, got that all installed and promptly ran out of propane before I had a chance to cook! So, I grabbed my son and we went out back and got some wood and built a fire! We cooked the steaks over an open fire and they came out GREAT until I dropped one of them in the fire! I had to fish it out of the fire- which Cooper seemed to like a whole lot! Then I cooked another steak on the fire and ate supper! I have been paged twice since then and I am sitting here at the computer completely spent and ready to go read and go to bed! I think I am bailing on the turkeys! This was kind of my last hoorah and I think I am done until next year! Of course, I could wake up early tomorrow and head back out! Haven't really completely given up yet! Well, off to chill out and go to bed! Night!

Long Weekend!

I Am Getting Ready for Work...
But when I get home, I am home for two days! I like long weekends! Tim and Kristie and Jerry and Julie are coming over tonight for some games! I FUCKING hate being on call! Last night was one of those nights that really make me hate it! Fell asleep at 10 PM, got woke up at 12 and then got back up at 4 AM! Good times! I am looking forward to turkey hunting Monday! I saw a nice tom 20 yards from my house yesterday! With a nice seven inch beard! Maybe I can entice him to die on Monday! Well, I am off to work for the rest of the day! See everyone tonight! Later

Bored and Sore

Tonight, I Came Home From Work...
Had an excellent dinner of my wife's yummy chicken stew, worked out and took a shower and am now just chilling out before bed. I would like to watch Lost but my wife's shows are on tonight so there is NO chance of that happening tonight! I am bored and sore right now! I took five days off from working out and now that I am back at it, I am sore every time I kick my butt! I am going to be 39 years old in less than two months! One year away from 40! I guess that would mean I am somewhere in the second half of my life! I am not complaining though! I have a great wife and children, an awesome house that will get better any day now and a good bunch of family and friends that I like spending time with! I am quite happy with the way my life turned out! I like my job and the people I work with and I make pretty descent money! Yes, I work too much but you can't really change who you are, can you? I am on call this week! I am actually on call for three of the next four weeks because I pawned off last week for vacation and camp! Next Monday is Memorial Day and I plan on doing something fun with an extra day off! Paid to boot! Maybe I will turkey hunt in the morning and then do something fun- like a BBQ or something with friends and family! That sounds kind of fun! Well, off to kill another hour or so and then go to bed! Camp

Three of Us From Work...
Ended up going to camp after work on Friday to get the camp ready for summer! A lot more than three were supposed to go up there but everyone else canceled due to weather! We had a really good time up there! Rick C and I went- we go every time! And Shane from MIS went. He might not be like Rick and I- in that we are both pretty much rednecks and Shane is NOT! Plus, he doesn't drink but he still seemed to have a good time. We had steaks on the grill Friday night then hooked up with some guys we went ice fishing with up there last winter. One of the guy's wife works with all of us and we had fun with them! They were all pretty drunk by the time we got together with them and we played poker and drank until 1 AM. They are Rick and I's type! Good guys who are as redneck as Rick and I. We got a lot of stuff done today! We mowed, raked, put in docks- that turned into a big mess! And we put the boat in- which also turned into a mess since someone hit it with a snowmobile sometime in the winter and put a hole in it! We loaded it on the shop pick-up and Rick is bringing it home with him tomorrow! East Grand still kicks my ass fishing! I can't catch any good fish there! Well, off to watch Lost with my wife and see if I have any chance of sleeping tonight! Night

Round 1 - Turkeys

Round One Was Won By the Birds!
My vacation is over after today and I didn't get a bird! I called in a bunch of birds but none were shooters! This morning, I messed up everything I touched! I couldn't get out of my own way this morning and I tried to get cute and sneak all the way down to the brook and set up without the two toms that roost down there seeing me! Didn't work- they saw me and never gobbled at all! Then I went over to where we saw a big tom the other day and he was gobbling his head off when I got there! Thought I would cute with him and sneak in close and call him to me! He saw me, too and ran away! Then I went back out behind my house and didn't see or hear anything! I can hunt tomorrow morning then I have to go to work and then we are going to camp for the spring clean up and then my season is over until the last week. I don't know how hard I will hunt that week! The bugs will be really bad and the birds will be more scattered out then they are now! I probably will give them another shot knowing me but I think this year is going to end with no bird! I have had a great vacation though! I needed a break and am glad I got one! Not looking forward to the long week next week with me having to work Sunday and the mountain of paperwork that will surely be waiting for me! Well, off to work out and take a shower and get ready for Sean's baseball game! Later

VACATION

I Am On Vacation!
I have been turkey hunting every morning and doing projects and stuff my wife wanted done around the house. We put in a storm door on Sunday and I put together book shelves for her on Sunday, too! I have seen a BUNCH of birds! No shooters though! Well, I saw a real shooter this morning! He was very far away though and wanted nothing to do with me! His beard was easily ten inches long! I have been totally slacking on working out! I walk in the woods and carry a backpack, a bag and a gun and I am really tired by the time I get home! I have been three days without working out and I need to get back on that tonight! Sean has baseball practice tonight and then I will tackle some weights! I LOVE being on vacation! I like working and I work A LOT but I could totally be fine with not working! I wish the kids were off this week and my wife, too! That would have made it a perfect vacation! Well, off to take a shower before baseball practice! Later

Mother's Day Part 2

My Second Mother Is My Wife!
The Mother of my children! My wife for almost 13 years now! The rock of our family, the accountant, the discipline, the caretaker and the ruler! The cook, the boo-boo kisser, the concert goer, the soccer Mom, the taxi! She is the best Mom I know! Strong and tough when she needs to be, kind and loving when she needs to be, Mom when she needs to be, a friend when she needs to be! I love both my Mom's that I will be spending time with on Mother's Day! Night

Tomorrow Is Mother's Day!
Two Mothers come to mind when I think of Mother's Day! My Mom and my wife! This blog will be about my Mom! She is my Mom! She is Sean and Jessi's B and my wife's mother in law! We are going over to their house for Chinese food tomorrow night and I bought her two more roses for her garden! Roses are kind of my every year gift for her! I give her a rose and she plants it and every time I go over, she shows me how her Mother's Day rose is doing and shows me where she put it! It is kind of cool that I get her the same thing every year because she has fun planting them and loves to show them off to people who come over and she loves to show me where she put them! I like that! Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

ALMOST

This Morning Was the Closest...
So far! I had my new shotgun and got all set up in my blind by 430 AM! My two arch nemesis were both gobbling their heads off down by the brook and one bird gobbled to my left towards the brook but clearly on my side! That bird only gobbled once- meaning he wanted no part of the two mature birds gobbling down by the brook! Then I hear what I though was a hen clucking off to my right! I thought, "ok, if I get her coming out to my decoys, the two birds that I REALLY want to kill might finally come!" So I strike up a nice conversation with 'her' and we talk back and fourth for a couple of minutes and sounds like she is getting closer with every cluck and purr! I am watching for her to come out of the woods across the pipeline but something flying in catches my eye and I realize a turkey is flying in and landing about 30 yards from me! Right behind it is another bird! They are both jakes I realize instantly by their red heads and dark colors! I call to them to see if they want to chat but they want nothing to do with me or my decoys! I study both birds intensely looking for a beard that will make one of them legal and let my new gun shatter the quietness of the morning! NOTHING! Not a beard that I can see on either bird! They have snuck across the pipeline and are going in the woods where what I thought was hen was calling! I kick myself for not lighting one of them up! Chances are VERY good that they both had beards and that they were just too small to see! So, ten minutes goes by and I see one of them coming back out on the pipeline where they went in! One jake comes out, then another jake then a THIRD jake comes out! The bird I was chatting with was a jake- not a hen! They are still at that magic thirty yards but I STILL can't see a beard on any of them! I call to them and one looks back and follows the other two down the pipeline! Three toms at 30 yards and I don't fire a shot! Guess I am a little spooky from the jake with no beard Dad and I saw a while back and wanted to make sure before I shoot! These are not the bird I am looking for but ending this 330 AM craziness would feel really good right now! I jumped a deer off my lawn on the way out this morning which makes me feel better since I haven't seen any deer down there lately since turkey season started! I will be back after them in the morning and we will see what happens! I don't have much time in the morning- I have to be at work at 630 AM to do yard check but all my action this morning was between 5 and 530 so it is more than possible! I think I will shoot one of those jakes if I can get a chance and see one of their beards! Well, off to find something to eat and work out! Night

My Own 835

Today, My Wonderful...
Wife bought me a Mossberg 835 turkey killing machine! I was SO excited to get home and take it out of the box! I can't wait to take it with me in the morning and maybe get a chance to unleash it at a real bird! Sunday is Mother's Day and I get a new gun! How cool is that? Tonight, Sean's baseball team had their first game. I thought it went quite well! The kids seemed to have fun and stay interested for the most part and the atmosphere was very noncompetitive and laid back! They don't keep score and all the kids get to bat. Dad helped out a lot and Sean did quite well! I need to work on him with throwing and catching though! He seems to be behind the other kids in hand-eye coordination which I never would have expected from him! He can cast a fishing rod under a culvert from an angle! I think he is like me though and team sports don't really excite him like hunting and fishing do! Sounds like the whole apple didn't fall far from the tree thing to me! I think he just needs some practice though and he will be fine with baseball. He hits really good! Well, off to rub my wife's feet and watch Survivor and Lost! Night

That Is What Jessi...
Calls me! Tonight was Sean's first baseball practice and my first coaching baseball practice! It went OK I would say! Sean seemed to have fun and he is absolutely exhausted right now! Not that I am any better! The last two days, I have got up at 345AM to hunt before work! I am on vacation next week and I can't wait for that! Karl stopped in to work today and showed me pictures of a part albino turkey out to his house! I haven't shot one yet but I am in the right area! I had three different birds gobbling this morning and my time will come! Well, I am beat so I am off to take a shower and go to bed! Night

Ironman!

Today Is Ironman Day!
Sean, Jerry, Zack and I are going to see Ironman and Liv and Jessi are going to see a movie! I can't wait for the movie! I also can't wait for turkey hunting tomorrow before I have to work! I hope my luck is as good as my Dad's and that it only takes me one day, too! Well, off to get my trash ready for the dump and get my laundry swapped over and taken care of! I will try and write a quick review of the movie when we get back this afternoon! Later
